Designed for a single professional as a quiet respite from a stressful job, this low maintenance and cost-conscious home sits on a secluded site bordered by conservation land. Juxtaposed exterior materials, glass panels downstairs and vertical cedar siding upstairs, differentiate the two floors of this cubic structure. A spiral staircase rises from the living/dining room like sculpture to an upper level balcony. Foliage cascades from a planter down over the balcony and into the lower floor. Natural daylight keeps artificial lighting costs low. A skylight illuminates the bathroom while a continuous light monitor brightens the corridor between the bedroom and studio. The southern facade opens to the warm sunlight and pristine views.
