The State of Connecticut Department of Public Works selected OMR as the design architect in collaboration with a local firm for this 30,000 sf, $7 million project at Northwestern CT Technical Community College in Winsted, CT. As the design architect, OMR was responsible for educational programming, conceptual and schematic designs, and monitoring construction documentation.
The Master Plan involves the construction of a new Science, Art, and Student Center building on a site adjacent to the existing main parking lot, which is located across the street and over a river from the main campus.
The state-of-the-art building serves as a gateway, channeling visitors through a daylit atrium, and over a new bridge into the existing campus. Cutting-edge science and art exhibits fill the bright atrium, which forms the hub of campus life.
The science program, located primarily on the lower level, includes a chemistry lab, microbiology lab with a shared lab prep room complete with incubator room, biology lab, physics lab, a general lab with shared lab prep room, general classrooms, and offices. All labs and classrooms have smartboards, projection screen, ceiling-mounted projectors, and fully integrated data and cable infrastructure.
