This elegant and comfortable home merges the essence of the original owners' Asian and North American cultures as elements of classical Chinese architecture subtly highlight the landscaping, design, and materials. The interplay of sun, water, winds, land, and vegetation determined the residence's orientation and shape. The two-winged, semi-circular form harmonizes with its site, continually referencing the soft waves of the nearby river and rolls of distant hills. Mature evergreens shade the house from excessive sun yet permit the flow of cool summer breezes through the space. Expansive vistas of water and fields open from almost every room. Upon occupancy, the residents engraved the word "Harmony" on a small stone near the entry: a strong testament to the tranquility and peace produced by a design at one with its surroundings.
