congregation tikkun v'or, ithaca, ny

Tikkun v’Or is a small reform congregation located in Ithaca, NY. For many years, the congregation survived without a full time Rabbi, and with activities dispersed amongst several different rented facilities around the city. Determined to drop its roots and reach out into the community, Tikkun v’Or purchased a rural parcel of land on the outskirts of town overlooking Lake Cayuga. They hired OMR to design a new synagogue and community center to embrace the Jewish population of western New York State.

With a limited budget for two phases of implementation, the primary challenge was to develop an inexpensive scheme that met the congregation’s many needs. Through an intensive series of meetings, OMR worked with the building committee to determine a clear program, weigh cost/benefit trade-offs, and select a highly-efficient, affordable, and easy-to-build design that retained the sculptural and spiritual qualities of a religious building.
