verrill farm
After losing their family-owned farm stand in Concord, MA to fire, the Verrill’s turned to OMR to help them plan and design a new 1-story, 12,000 sf building.
In character with the rural farm setting, the stand maintains a low profile with hipped roofs and cedar posts and beams. The open porch front provides a welcoming entry for customers and an area for exterior produce display.
Green space was preserved for the large “Farm Day” events which occur seasonally. A large attached green house will be used for retail display and cooking classes. The retail areas share the wood trim vocabulary of the exterior, so the shopping experience is warm and comfortable. Cathedral ceilings with clerestory glass allow natural lighting into the main spaces.
Since the Verrill’s prepare specialty foods and meals, the “back house” areas are larger than the retail. These production areas include a commercial kitchen, built-in freezers and coolers, storage for dry goods and catering supplies. Administrative areas include offices for managers and business, a large conference room; as well as staff locker and changing rooms for staff.
